Shopping Carts

From the door to our car to our front door is approximately about 200 steps (this was done with my steps, and yes I counted). We travel along a long dock to get to our floating home. Since we came from a place where we did not have parking and many stairs, I thought I was ready for anything. Turns out that I am not. You see the dock can be very long, and when carrying heavy loads it seems longer. I also do not believe in taking more than one trip when dealing with shopping trips. No food item will be left behind! When we lived in SF this is something I would suffer through during my solo trips to the store. I would carry all of our bags and groan as I walked down our street and then up our 48 stairs to our apartment.

Things have changed.

Shopping Carts play a pivotal role in the life of the floating home dweller. These magical plastic things are used to carry/push/transport your life from one place to another. This includes moving things from your car to your home such as groceries and what not. This also means that when you take your trash or recycling out you do not have to carry it but just throw it in a cart and off you go! (Note: this would have been helpful on Monday nights growing up and taking the trash out at 265).

In fact shopping carts has revolutionized my life. I spend about 10-20 mins a day looking for the right shopping carts, because it seems that all of the docks share them. Now from my calculation there are only about 12 of them or so, and trust me, whenever I want one I cannot find it. The carts also differ much like the retail stores they came from. We have carts from Mollie Stones, Best Buy, Longs Drugs, and other such wonderful places. Last night Ben went all of the way over to another dock in search of one because there was not a close one near by. Which makes sense that he was gone for like 30 mins or so.

Now when I am out and about I find myself looking at shopping carts to see if they have the "San Francisco-Don't-Steal-Me" mechanism on there. Then I think to myself, how easy would it be just to pick one of these things up and drive off with it. This is now my most common reoccurring thought. Each day I think about stealing shopping carts. Sad, but true. I see how truly helpful they are in my daily life!
